The location and spaces are so nice. There are lots of places to just sit and relax whether it is a private balcony outside of your room or seating area by the fire. The pool is really really nice. The only downside was that it was closed for maintenance/repair for a good of the only morning we were… there, so we didn’t get as much time there as we wanted. But the guest services was so accommodating and extended our checkout time! I loved it.

This is a stunning hotel and the staff are prompt, helpful and courteous. The grounds and koi ponds are beautiful and my son loved being able to explore and roam. The restaurant is pretty solid for breakfast which was the only meal we ate there. The pool is a bit small but nice and deep. Wish there …was an atm on the property and that there was somewhere to get lunch. The shuttle is a nice touch but doesn’t go very far and unfortunately there are no taxis or rideshare in the town.

We had very nice stay here! I was so happy to be able to bring my dog to such an idyllic setting. When I asked my fellow travelers what to put in this review we decided the summary is “less salt! More cushions!” The food at de la Tierra was super salty and the suite/porch needed cushions for the har…d chairs. But in an effort to be more useful here are some more pros and cons.
Best bits:
- the staff was super responsive to my texts. They came quickly to put batteries in the remote and snake the drain in the tub. The valets and shuttle drivers were amazing! They gave us tailored recommendations on restaurants and when I returned from an outing they had looked up hours on Google and had a list of good food options for me even though I hadn’t asked.
- The shuttle was convenient for getting anywhere within three miles of the hotel
- The gift shop had beautiful jewelry and a very kind saleswoman. My dog loved her.
- The pool was lovely. I appreciated that, as a greenhouse, the air was moister and possibly more oxygenated than the thin, dry air outside.
- The vent in the suite worked well to clear out the smoky air from nearby wildfires.
- The lemon/lime water and free water bottles in the lobby and the pool were much appreciated.
Could use some work:
- The chairs on the porch of our suite were very hard and could have used cushions. The couch also had minimal cushions.
- It would be nice to have a lounge chair on the porch! The running water was so nice but there was no where to relax. Would also have used it to look at the stars.
- The lighting in the bathrooms was limited especially with some bulbs out.
- There was a lot of dust under the furniture and our allergies were off the hook when inside the suite.
- The heating and cooling system is awkward at best.
- People were leaving their food service trays out on the paths but no one was picking them up with any haste.
Finally as someone coming from a foggy sea level city, I would just advise you to be ready for the altitude and how dry everything is! My lips and skin were so chapped. My nose was burning and I had pretty intense brain fog for the first 36 hours.

By far the best surprise and highlight of our 3500 mile road trip! We stopped in Taos and chose El Monte Sagrado a bit last minute, as their sister hotel Palacio de Marquesa was full. I can only imagine the hospitality we missed there, but were pleasantly blown away by the personable staff that gr…eeted us, their splendid service, fantastic food, beautiful grounds, and exquisite, intimately private room we stayed in. Even the shower was impressive, a warm waterfall built for two. We stayed at several other resorts along our way, most more expensive but were overpriced and underwhelming compared to El Monte Sagrado. Whether it's romance, relaxation, or just a pitstop along the way, this is the place for you. Stop reading, start booking!

My wife and I had a very relaxing stay here. The staff was professional, the property feels like a wellness retreat and the food is excellent. Beautiful architecture and decor.
We loved the soaking tub in-room and the salt water pool. Lots of nice thoughtful touches throughout the experience.
Only… recommendations for improvement would be to update the a/v. We had some trouble connecting to wifi and the TV had a very dated directv system. There are also some minor maintenance things like a missing tile in the bathroom and some loose fixtures like smoke detectors kind of hanging from the ceiling. Not a huge deal.

Monte Sagrado is definitely a place you stay for the experience. It feels like a secluded, luxurious retreat while still being conveniently close to downtown. From the moment you arrive, you immediately feel the warmth and excellent customer service at the front desk.
We were able to take advantage… of the shuttle service downtown, which I would highly recommend—it made getting around incredibly easy. Our room was very clean, cozy, and well appointed, with a beautiful bathroom, a fireplace, and all the amenities you could want.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and overall the property gives you the feeling that you’re somewhere truly special. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a memorable and relaxing stay.

I stayed here several years ago...well over 10 years ago. I had forgotten how nice this resort is. I was disappointed that the spa and pool facilities were not working at the time of my visit. But was fairly compensated for not having these facilities available. I really enjoyed my stay. Staff …is so friendly and helpful. Facility is beautiful. Artwork is amazing. And the gardener is a magician! Keep up the good work.

We had a fantastic family vacation at El Monte Sagrado. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and offers a peaceful, relaxing environment that made it easy to unwind. The staff was excellent—friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. Our room was cozy, clean, and very comfortable, which made our s…tay even more enjoyable. The grounds were exceptionally well maintained and added to the serene atmosphere of the property. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we would gladly return and recommend it to others looking for a relaxing and memorable stay.

Overall, a fantastic place to go on vacation, especially a couples romantic retreat.
We got the king bed room and had some really great features in the room:
The hot tub was the centerpiece of the room and was a great addition. I will mention that the maintenance for this was a little lacking but …still a nice experience.
The timed fireplace was also really great and kept the room at a nice temperature when we did use it.
The view out onto the central field was really nice with a little balcony.
The hotel itself had some cosy extras, the spa is beautiful and the service was attentive.
The pool! My goodness, the pool was amazing and in October we had the whole pool to ourselves.
The only small thing I noticed, that I think they could improve on is maintenance as I mentioned earlier. The fountain pipes on some of the water features were clogged, the hot tub waters jets were clogged with dirt and the faucet was very loose.
I do recommend this location. Really lovely getaway.
